The Land of Guinness and Greenery, Ireland

6 Days in Ireland

Whenever I'm in Ireland, I like to pack in as much sightseeing as I possibly can, along with a lot of drinking. After all, it is Ireland!
My first two days I spent in Dublin, visiting the Trinity College campus, the Dublin National Museum of Archeology, which is free, and of course the house and statue of my beloved author, Oscar Wilde. I greatly enjoyed the Dublin Castle, which is seeped in history, and also the Temple Bar, where they feature traditional Irish clogging. If you want to join in on the dancing, just get a couple of pints deep and you'll have as much fun as the people who actually know what they're doing!
When it comes to visiting Ireland, the key word is "tours." In many cases you can just go online and find some great tour deals, or you can ask the receptionist at your hotel, like I did. Going on an organized tour enables you to see all the sights Ireland has to offer, without getting lost or having to rent a car. In the Aran Island or Inis Mor, I got to see beautiful cliffs overlooking the sea, and also experience the very Irish culture of Galway, where people still speak Gaelic.
My fourth day I devoted to understanding Jameson Whiskey and Guinness, by going to both factories. The Guinness Storehouse is comprised of seven floors: the first floor is the store, and floors 2-6 are all about the craft of making and selling the tasty beer. The seventh floor is the Gravity Bar, where you receive a complimentary pint of Guinness, and enjoy the view of Dublin.
My fifth and sixth day were also tour days. I traveled to the Blarney Castle, although I must admit I was too scared to lean backward and kiss the famous Blarney Stone. The tour was still amazing, despite my fear, and just going through the old castle, imagining the lives that once called this place home, was truly touching. The Wicklow Mountain tour was much more relaxing than all the others, simply because of the majestic scenery. A fun fact is that on this tour you also get to see where the movie, P.S. I Love You, was filmed. Also, when at the old monastery at Glendalough, legend says if you can put your arms around the largest cross monument in the cemetery, and your fingers touch, you will live a long, prosperous life!

O'Connell Street
O'Connell Street is Dublin's main thoroughfare. One of Europe's widest streets, known as 'Sackville Street' until 1924, Dublin Corporation renamed it in honor of Daniel O'Connell, a nationalist leader of the early nineteenth century whose statue stands at the lower end of the street, facing O'Connell Bridge.
